Gallery of Song

Mississauga Chamber Singers in-school program ‘Gallery of Song: Spirit of the Land’ is an interactive presentation of Canadian music, poetry, and visual art for elementary students, developed by Artistic Director Mervin William Fick.  Central to MCS Chorus’ community outreach commitment, the program is offered at no cost to schools in the Peel District School Board.

MCS presents live interactive presentations of ‘The Gallery of Song: Spirit of the Land’ to schools in the Peel District Board. These include narration, choral performance and PowerPoint support.

The ‘Gallery of Song’ engages grades 4-5 students in discussions with the Artistic Director which develop into an open dialogue on creativity and inspiration and the appreciation of Canadian music, art and literature. The presentation provides the teachers a springboard for deeper exploration into studying Canadian art and music.

Your presentation gave our students a fully integrated experience of Art in its many forms. Mervin Fick was a brilliant communicator, in his ability to connect with our students and engage them with questions that really made them think about the whole artistic process.

I love how you challenged the students to view art and respond with their own thoughts . . . regardless of whether they 'liked' or 'did not like' the art they were viewing.
