Artistic Director

Mervin William Fick

A graduate of the University of Toronto (MusBac) and the Royal Conservatory (ARCT – Performance and Teacher), Mervin William Fick brings to his role as Artistic Director of MCS Chorus more than 35 years of creative leadership as a choral director, voice teacher and adjudicator. His extensive knowledge of repertoire and innovative programming and his commitment to community outreach and audience education have been instrumental in renewing the Mississauga Chamber Singer’s artistic vision. One of the greatest gifts that Mervin brings to singers under his direction is his ability to inspire truly joyful singing.

His dedication to singers’ development has inspired MCS choristers to strive to achieve higher levels of choral excellence, integrating period performance techniques where stylistically meaningful. His commitment to lifelong learning is vital to the choir’s growth and success

Recognizing the importance of engaging next generation audience members, as well as potential choristers, Mervin developed and delivers an innovative interactive arts education program to elementary students in the Peel District School Board. The program is an integral part of the organization’s artistic vision.

He enjoys the opportunity of conducting newly commissioned works, including John Beckwith – ‘Derailed’. In 2009 Mervin conducted the MCS Chorus in the world premiere David Mott’s ‘Creation’ which was recorded live by CBC Radio2.

Mervin also directs  Toronto Beach Chorale, the PCS Singers/Brampton, and the National award-winning Esprit Chamber Choir, an acapella ensemble founded on an academy of choral singing with intense study involving discussion, demonstration and practice of choral skills. He has led three choral tours in Europe, showcasing Canadian works.
